At Narconon Arrowhead we realize that in a majority of cases we are dealing with individuals who not only have a drug or alcohol problem but who abuse drugs in the plural sense, meaning more than one drug of abuse. One of course will have a primary drug of abuse, but in this society at this time the ready availability of various legal and illegal substances make abuse of multiple drugs the reality for most. Each drug or substance has its own effects on the individual both mentally and physically. Effective drug rehab methodologies will confront and deal with this reality. When we say addiction treatments it implies more than one, and so it is. If we define treatment per the Encarta dictionary as ‘the particular way somebody or something is dealt with or handled’, we can see that there are usually various ways to achieve this. Certainly issues of health and nutrition need to corrected, especially in the withdrawal and detoxification phases of the program. The term student is used as we are educating the individual into the use of the tools and abilities needed to sustain a continuous drug free productive life and to confront and resolve the three main factors behind relapse and continued use. The decision to face the need for addiction treatment, whether it is for oneself or for one’s loved ones) is never an easy decision and one is often left with the ‘hope’ that the decision made was a good one.
